Hell Girl's saucer-eyed teen devil wowed Japanese TV viewers in 2005. Now the avenging star of the anime series is coming to U.S. screens, as IFC airs the first installment of the 26-episode show Tuesday night at 8 p.m. EST.
Produced by Tokyo-based production house Aniplex, Hell Girl centers on the Send a Friend to Hell website, which is the online equivalent of a voodoo doll.
On the site, people who feel they've been wronged enter the name of the evildoer at midnight. Word trickles down to the underworld, and soft-spoken ass-kicker Ai Enma, aka Hell Girl, is dispatched to wreak havoc on the offender.
There's a catch: Anyone who submits a name to the website has to, uh, go to Hell when they die. Cheerful stuff!
